We just kept on sleepin' until the femme de chambre woke us up at 14:00h. Jet lag.
After dilly-dallying for about an hour, we went to the hotel bar for a nice coffee, then made our way out the door to catch the train to Paris.
We headed straight for Notre Dame, but temptation got us first and sent us shopping. David and i both found some killer shoes, which we bought and wore right out into the streets, and they were actually comfortable for about 3 hours.
Notre Dame was astounding, and we happened to go in right as mass was starting. There was beautiful singing and French mass service as our soundtrack for looking at the Chapel of the Blessed Sacrement, and the masterpieces in sculpture and paint. I took lots of pictures, but my audience will have to wait until I am back at home and can use my Mac for the transfer.
From the cathedral, we walked along the Seine, to the Eifel Tower. It was a beast. The garden was very beautiful.
We stopped in a cafe with nice sidewalk seating and drank chablis and a strange whiskey beer. I should also mention the mousse au chocolat. Mon Dieu!
You know what?! The people here are very nice! We have not met a snooty waiter or anyone else. It's true that when we talk to them in French they answer in English (often, but not always), but when you answer them in French they get the idea, and they are pleased to converse, and even help you with vocabulary or pronounciation when asked. They all want to know about Texas. One lady asked "Do you live in town or on a ranch?", then the guy at the quicky mart asked "Texas! Like Herr Bush?", to which we replied "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" They liked that answer.
I suppose that I should mention the waiter at our petit-dejeuner put down some type of paper table cloth that no one else in the restaurant had, I guess it was a comment about messy Americans, but I cant be sure. But the waiter in the wine place was the quintessential Parisien waiter. He was fun, funny, adorable.
Apparently there is as street here with the jacker-offers. David has been talking about it all day. I guess we should drive through it so he can see it with his own eyes. I told him that he wont feel so special anymore (LOL).
Quoi d'autre?
You can walk around with a bottle of wine, and order codiene pills if you want. The French love to do whatever they please, and that seems to be a community virtue here.
The Hobo's were really believable here. They wear rags and set up outside the cathedral.
There was a dog with a raquetball in his mouth.
Gilded sculpture that seemed to float in the air on top of their columns.
The people that visit from Africa look like royalty.

Anyway. My dogs are barkin'. We were walking for about 11 hours. Tomorrow, Disneyland!!!

love,
Amanda
