Since I've been a member of the LJ community, I have seen several instances of what I amount to be irresponsible journalism. I have been the target of this more than once, and I have witnessed it used against other people.
What I mean by this is where the writer uses their journal as a machine of hate and humiliation by borrowing from the fact that people will take the side of the person they know, or are more acquainted with, during an argument or problem. The journalist will angle their writing to illicit a specific kind of response, the one that they want to hear, and rally the troops to support their cause. They poison the ear of their followers to turn against their Brother or Sister by using their gift of a charismatic voice or writing style.
The propagandist is not entirely responsible for this sad behavior. The followers are guilty of being tricked into choosing a side while not being adequately informed, and they should have known better than to listen to hurtful gossip or slander/libel. The followers are also guilty of not thinking for themselves as a result.

I speculate that the journalist isn't entirely secure in their position and needs the approval and support of their peers at any cost.

It is also my belief that private grievances with specific people should be taken to a more private forum. I shudder to think that I have to mention this to other adults, but it appears to be the case.
