Memphis

Memphis is just darling! We rolled into town right around sunset and our hosts took us to a clever little sushi bar called Do. It was very trendy and had a bit of a wait, but the food was great.
I guess we are staying in a nice part of town, as the trees are so giant and old and beautiful, and the lawns are so large and neatly manacured. The houses are of a nice old Southern architecture.

They actually have real coffee houses here...everywhere. Today, I stepped into a cute little joint called "Mo's" with an AI/Psyche student named Will. This place was covered with art by Memphis artists, has live music by Memphis musicians, brews coffee fresh all day, makes all kinds of sandwiches and breakfast, and has giant cookies coming out of the oven all day long. If I wasn't here to work I would hang out there and play pool all day.

I am so impressed with the set! It is really great with it's old 70's shag carpet and ugly couch (but it's a sleeper so we will spend the night here one night to give it an authentic lived in feel). There is even an old stereo system with the turntable/cassette/8-track and a stack of Linda Ronstadt records.
I would attach a photo, but the robot is sitting there all naked in his little house with the windows wide open and looks very vulnerable.

I took a nap on the couch with Phil today (he was naked except his shoes). There is a sweet little robotic black cat to keep him company at night when we are gone.

These guys here at the university are wizards. David has a good group of people working on this project. They seem to be the best of the brightest of the best.
David is stressed, but is holding up. I wish I could take some of it from him, but I am reminded of something Content once told me about actually working from that place of stress/nerves/anxiety to get things done. I think it is the edge that keeps him going, that makes these giant leaps of technology possible. That, dark chocolate, and black coffee.
